Technical Lighting for Residential: Visual Comfort and High Colour Fidelity

Contemporary residential lighting has evolved from a purely utilitarian function to a technical discipline that fuses wellbeing, aesthetics and energy efficiency. At Todo-Lux, our residential lighting solutions are designed to meet the demands of architects and interior designers, ensuring exceptional light quality through advanced colour fidelity parameters and smart control systems that adapt to the users' circadian rhythm.

Light Quality Parameters in the Residential Space

To transform a domestic environment into a high-comfort space, we apply engineering metrics that ensure a healthy and visually accurate atmosphere:

  • Superior Colour Fidelity (CRI > 90/95): At home, faithful colour reproduction in food, textiles and skin tones is critical. We use light sources with high CRI and an optimised R9 (red) value, exceeding conventional commercial standards.
  • Glare Control (UGR < 16/19): We deploy luminaires with recessed optics and high-efficiency reflectors to minimise direct glare. This is essential in reading areas, kitchens and home offices to prevent visual fatigue.
  • Colour Consistency (MacAdam SDCM < 3): We ensure that all luminaires in a project maintain the same exact tone, avoiding perceptible colour deviations between different light points.
  • Flicker-Free Technology: Constant-current drivers that eliminate invisible flicker, reducing visual stress and headaches associated with low-quality LED lighting.

Smart Lighting and Circadian Cycles (HCL)

Technological integration allows the home's light to work in favour of human biology through the Human Centric Lighting (HCL) concept:

  • Tunable White: Systems that allow the colour temperature to be adjusted from warm tones (2200K) for nighttime relaxation to cool, stimulating tones (5000K) for tasks requiring concentration.
  • Control Protocols: Our solutions are compatible with the main Smart Home ecosystems:
    • Casambi / Bluetooth LE: Ideal for refurbishments without the need for bus cabling.
    • DALI-2 / KNX: For comprehensive home automation integrations of high reliability.
    • Zigbee: Compatibility with mass-market systems and voice assistants.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on Residential Lighting

How important is colour temperature for rest?

Light rich in blue spectrum (cool light) inhibits melatonin production. We therefore recommend warm temperatures (2700K or below) and dimming systems in bedrooms and lounge areas to encourage the transition to sleep and respect the circadian rhythm.

What advantages does CRI > 95 lighting bring in the kitchen?

The kitchen is an area for critical tasks. A high colour rendering index allows the state and freshness of food to be properly appreciated, in addition to facilitating cutting and preparation tasks under a light that does not distort textures or true colours.

Is it possible to digitalise home lighting without building work?

Yes, through wireless technology such as Casambi or Bluetooth Mesh. It is possible to replace conventional luminaires with smart versions or install control modules behind existing switches, allowing scenes and schedules to be created from a mobile device with no need to add control cabling (Bus).
